ok so i went to the 2009 a-fest and it was awsome..and i saw several of the animes they were showing in the video theaters and there was this one i really liked with a girl who had long hair and kicked ass in an action anime but ive completely forgotten the name can someone tell me the different names of the animes they were showing

They showed a lot of anime... maybe more specific than an action anime with a long-haired heroine? Was it Sci-fi? Was it slice of life? Sports related? Was there a male counterpart? Anything extra that might help narrow it down?

Color of her hair, and what she wore would also help.
Was she in a school uniform, and what color?
Or did she wear a lot of kimonos?
Perhaps she wore modern styles a lot...

all of this can help us narrow it down.
