we attended only the first day and enjoyed ourselves immensely. only one complaint; after winning an award in the masquerade (Creativity Award - Gundam Exia from 'Gundam 00' - Nick Novoselsky) the award trophies couldn't be located. So I, (Nicks parent type authority figure) spoke with the judges, explained we had to drive back to longview and was given assurances they would be glad to mail the trophy to Nick. I was much relieved and thanked the judges profusely. also offered to pay postage or do anything else i could to facilitate the process. I gave our mailing address to them and was told if there seemed to be a delay I should email the director (suzi@animefest.org) and make sure our address was recieved and all.

well over 2 months later we have no trophy and probably worse I've not been able to get an email answered from anyone through this site. I understand mistakes happen and so on but an answer or explanation doesn't seem too much to ask.

Is there still any chance at all you guys might be able to make this right?

Let me inquire about the trophy and I can at least see if I can get someone to get you a response. That is the least I can do to attempt to help.

I'm truly grateful for a response at all and will continue to wait patiently. You or any of the parties involved are welcome to contact me direct at ckhaney@hotmail.com
Did I mention I would drive to get this trophy? or that I would PAY for it? whatever the problem is I would gladly expend effort or whatever is required to FIX IT.
So, thanks for the reply. I stand ready to assist in any way possible.

The issue revolves around a miscommunication. You see, officially there was no "Creativity Award" in the Cosplay. The judges must made it up on the spot to recognize your work. There was no trophy to be found because it was not a planned award and therefore no trophy was ever made. If you were told that there was an award, but we couldn't find it, then the person saying it was mistaken. They couldn't find it because it didn't exist.

The 2009 cosplay rules, including the official awards are here:

I'm not quite sure what was promised, but I was there, and we were all very happy that he won the "Creativity Award". It's not his fault if someone got it wrong and told him there was a trophy when there was none. If he was told he was getting a trophy, SOMETHING should be given to him for his effort. It wouldn't be all that hard to whip up a plaque that says "Congratulations to _____________________________ for excellent creativity at Animefest 2009" and frame it and send it. At least then he would have SOMETHING to commemorate it.

It would be a big injustice if he doesn't get served, and I wouldn't blame them for any hard feelings they might have because of it.

The judges shouldn't have mentioned it at all if they couldn't give him his prize. That's just a huge let-down for everyone involved.

I know I have no say in this, but I do know good customer service. They are paying their money to come and to participate and have a good time with everyone else. It doesn't require a lot of money or effort to give him something. I know this is one of those little "miscommunication" things, but it's better to go ahead and help than to say, "Sorry, you're wrong. Nothing we can do about it!" Truthfully, it IS the mistake of the staff, not of the patron. Please reward loyalty with loyalty. We, the fans, would like to see him get a reward.

I have been informed of the issue and the participant was supposed to get a certificate, not a trophy. Unfortunately those were lost at the convention during that time that he was there, and when they were found the following day, he had already left the convention for the weekend. But just so you're aware, this is being taken care of, so yes, the participant will be getting his certificate.

Thank you. That makes me feel a lot better about attending this year. And thank you for the reply, as well. It shows you do care about what we feel, and I appreciate it more than you realize.
